Every year it rolls around, always at the same time! It lasts for three months then is gone for nine. Yes, that's right. I'm talking about summer!
Some people say that summer is when Youth Ministers earn their money. That used to be true. I remember back when I started in full time youth ministry that summer was easily my busiest time of year. However, I'm not so sure of that any more. Nowadays it's not uncommon to be busy all year. What with retreats, area wide devotionals, service projects, kids involved in extracurricular activities, etc...never mind prepping for those things!
Don't get me wrong, summer is when things tend to run together more often than not. Last year I was gone from home for four weeks in a row. It was poor scheduling on my part which made for a hard summer, and I'm not doing that again this year! This year we've spread most of it out a little bit so there is some down time in between most events.
I do love summer, except for the heat but I love the rest of the year as well. Frankly, I just love being able to do what it is that God allows me to do for a living!
